What students and families need to know.

The National Scholarship Portal lists OTR requirements and revised merit/welfare scheme rules for 2026–27. Check scheme eligibility and individual deadlines.

Checked on 6 October 2026: The National Scholarship Portal's official announcements for academic year 2026–27 state that One Time Registration (OTR) is required for scholarship applications. The portal also says students may apply for one merit-based scheme and one or more welfare-based schemes, subject to the respective eligibility criteria.

These points are published on the official NSP announcements page. They do not mean every scheme is currently accepting applications or that every student qualifies.

Registration does not establish eligibility

Use the scheme's current guidelines to check the qualifying course, academic year, income or category conditions where relevant, and any rules about other support. Completing a portal registration is only an administrative step. It is not an award confirmation.

Read the fresh and renewal instructions carefully if you have received support before. A scheme that helped you in an earlier year may require a new action or additional verification.

Make a scheme-level checklist

  • Record the exact scheme name and academic year.
  • Check its student application deadline separately from verification dates.
  • Collect the documents specified for your circumstances.
  • Check that your school or college details match the application.
  • Save the submission acknowledgement and monitor any correction request.

Keep a secure copy of your own records. When an application question is unclear, use the official scheme or portal support information. Do not treat a forwarded message claiming a universal last date as a substitute for the scheme's instructions.

What 2027 applicants should keep in mind

The current notice concerns 2026–27. Students who plan to enter college in a later academic session must wait for the relevant scheme instructions and check whether they apply to that year. Do not copy the current dates into a future admission plan.

Scholarship support is useful, but keep your college budget realistic until an award is confirmed. Our college admission 2027 guide explains how to compare total costs. You can also explore our scholarship discovery guide and verify each opportunity independently.

If you are considering international study, use the study abroad 2027 funding checklist to distinguish university awards from domestic scholarship schemes.
