Reviewed: 15 October 2026. This is a verification guide, not an announcement of 2027 counselling rules.

A forwarded PDF can look convincing: an official-looking logo, a reference number and a deadline that creates panic. Yet none of those features establishes that its instructions are real. Before changing your counselling plan, trace the information back to the authority that issued it.

This matters when families are planning MBBS admission for 2027, but the checking habit is useful right now. MCC's October 13, 2026 advisory rejected a circulated NEET UG percentile-reduction notice as fake and said no such decision had been made. Our news report on that MCC advisory explains the specific update.

Step 1: identify the authority and the admission year

Write down the exam, counselling body, year and round mentioned in the message. Then check the corresponding official notice area independently. A genuine notice for another year or another counselling authority may still be irrelevant to you.

Do not rely on a search-result headline alone. Open the authority's page, locate the document and compare it with the forwarded copy. If the claim concerns a state counselling process, verify it with that state's responsible authority instead of assuming an AIQ notice covers every route.

Step 2: read what the notice actually changes

Underline the operative instruction. Is it extending registration, changing choice filling, reporting an allotment or warning about misinformation? Read the affected candidates and any exclusions together with the date.

A message saying “admissions open” does not answer whether you may join that particular round. Likewise, an application deadline is not necessarily a payment deadline or a reporting deadline. Record each action separately.

When assessing an ongoing round, use our stray-vacancy eligibility and choice-filling checklist as a question list, then apply the actual rules published for your year and route.

Step 3: check the address before sharing details

Navigate to the recognised authority yourself. Examine the full domain, including spelling, rather than trusting a logo or the words shown on a button. A shortened address or an unexplained redirection deserves a pause.

Keep application passwords and OTPs private. Do not send identity scans to a person who cannot explain why they are needed and where they will be submitted. If someone offers to “unlock” an official portal, ask for the published rule supporting that claim before taking any action.

Step 4: separate guidance from guarantees

A counsellor can explain choices and help organise documents. A claim that a payment guarantees a government seat, changes an official rank or bypasses eligibility needs independent verification.

Ask for the institution name, course, applicable counselling route, complete fee breakdown, receipt process and written refund terms. Pressure to pay a personal account immediately is a reason to stop and check. Do not let a verbal promise replace documented admission instructions.

Our college fee and refund checklist for 2027 helps you organise those questions before committing money.

Keep a small verification record

  • The notice title, reference and publication date.
  • The official location where you found it.
  • The exact action required and the affected candidates.
  • Your deadline reminders and saved confirmation evidence.
  • Any written clarification from the responsible authority.

This record helps families discuss the same information. It also prevents an old screenshot from replacing a later correction. Share a summary with the source rather than forwarding an unverified message repeatedly.

If you have already acted on a suspicious message

Stop further payments or document sharing while you verify the claim. Preserve the message, payment record and contact details. Contact the relevant authority through independently verified channels. If money or account access is involved, contact your bank or service provider promptly and use the appropriate official reporting process.

Frequently asked questions

Is a PDF with a seal enough proof?

No. Find the matching document on the responsible authority's official page.

Does a real notice apply to every MBBS applicant?

No. Its year, authority, round and eligibility clauses determine whom it affects.

Can a 2026 rule be assumed for 2027?

No. Use previous rules for preparation questions and wait for the applicable 2027 notification before treating them as binding.
