IGNOU Admission 2026: Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has extended the deadline for fresh admissions for the July 2026 session, giving students another opportunity to apply for eligible programmes. Candidates can now submit their applications until September 30, 2026.

The extension covers eligible programmes offered through IGNOU's Open and Distance Learning (ODL) and online modes. Candidates planning to take admission should, however, carefully check whether their chosen programme is covered by the latest extension before paying the application fee, as exclusions apply to certain programmes.

The previous fresh-admission deadline had been extended to September 15, 2026, for notified ODL and online programmes except Certificate programmes. The latest extension gives eligible applicants additional time to complete the admission process.

Which IGNOU Programmes Are Covered?

IGNOU offers a wide range of undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma and postgraduate diploma programmes through its ODL and online learning systems.

However, candidates should not assume that the September 30 deadline applies to every IGNOU programme. The latest extension has been reported for eligible fresh admissions, with Certificate and semester-based programmes excluded from the applicable extension.

Applicants should therefore check the availability and deadline displayed against their specific programme on the relevant IGNOU admission portal before proceeding.

Who Can Apply for IGNOU July 2026 Admission?

Eligibility varies according to the programme selected.

For many undergraduate programmes, candidates are generally required to have passed Class 12 or an equivalent examination from a recognised board. Eligibility for postgraduate programmes generally requires a relevant bachelor's degree or other qualification specified for the particular course.

Some professional and specialised programmes may have additional requirements relating to subjects studied, minimum marks, work experience or other qualifications.

Candidates should check the programme-specific eligibility criteria in the IGNOU Common Prospectus July 2026 before submitting the form.

IGNOU Admission 2026 Application Fee

According to the IGNOU July 2026 Common Prospectus, a non-refundable registration fee of ₹300 applies to programmes covered by the standard registration provision, in addition to the applicable programme fee.

A University Development Fee of ₹400 is also payable at the time of admission in addition to the programme fee.

For certain Fixed Learning Intake Programmes (FLIP), the prospectus specifies a ₹500 non-refundable registration fee instead.

Since programme fees differ considerably depending on the course, students should verify the exact amount for their chosen programme before making payment.
