A final allotment changes the questions you need to ask. Instead of comparing a long preference list, you now need to understand one specific course and training institution. Where will your department work? How is supervision arranged? What must you complete before the reporting deadline? Families often focus on the college name and first payment while these practical questions remain unanswered.

This guide helps you organise that conversation. It is intended for candidates reviewing an actual postgraduate medical allocation, including those comparing the training arrangements associated with different qualifications. It does not rank specialities, interpret an individual contract or recommend accepting or rejecting a seat without checking the applicable counselling conditions.

Current stage

The MCC PG page lists the final Round 1 allotment result dated 24 October 2026 and directs candidates to download allotment letters and report according to the schedule. Start with your own candidate record. Read our final-result briefing for the dated update.

Confirm the exact allocation first

Compare your candidate identifiers, course, institution, campus and quota with the result and allotment letter. Similar institution names can hide different locations, and a department may operate across more than one site. Use the official document rather than a message from another candidate when you ask the college about reporting.

Create a short record with the document date, reporting instruction and contact used for clarification. Keep your original submitted choices and receipts available. If an allocation appears inconsistent, ask a precise question through the appropriate official channel. Do not assume a general enquiry pauses a reporting deadline or changes the result.

Understand the training programme you are joining

Request the current curriculum and programme information for the exact qualification. Ask how teaching, supervised clinical work, assessments and research responsibilities are organised. A useful answer identifies the department, the training sites and the people responsible for academic oversight. A brochure phrase about exposure is less useful than a clear explanation of the learning structure.

Keep qualification-specific requirements separate. If you are considering the implications of MD, MS or DNB training, consult the relevant academic and professional requirements for that route. This article does not treat the qualifications as interchangeable or make a universal claim about recognition, future appointments or overseas practice.

Ask about supervision and everyday learning

Ask how trainees obtain supervision, how feedback is provided and what formal teaching occurs alongside service responsibilities. Find out whom a student approaches when an academic issue is unresolved. You are looking for an understandable process, rather than a promise that every day will follow an ideal timetable.

A conversation with current trainees can help you identify useful questions. Ask about their own experience and verify important institutional rules with the institution. One person’s experience is not a statistical measure of department quality. Avoid asking anyone to share patient details or confidential hospital records to prove a point.

Check the training sites and travel demands

Establish where your main teaching and clinical activities occur and whether postings may involve another location. Ask how the institution communicates rotations and transport arrangements. A room close to the admission office is not necessarily close to the department where you will spend most of your time.

Use the actual sites to plan travel rather than assuming that a central city address means an easy commute. If your circumstances require accessibility support or another practical adjustment, ask the designated office about the process and documentation. Do not infer the available support from a general campus photograph.

Read fees, deposits and recurring costs separately

Ask which amount is tuition, which is a refundable security payment if applicable, and which charges relate to accommodation or other services. Check the period covered by each figure. A six-month payment, annual fee and total-course cost cannot be compared as if they describe the same obligation.

If a deposit paid during counselling is to be adjusted, obtain the applicable explanation and keep both receipts. Ask what happens if an online payment is debited but not acknowledged. Use the institution’s prescribed payment channel and avoid transferring money to an informal personal account because someone describes it as a faster admission route.

Clarify stipend information without budgeting on hearsay

Request the applicable written information about stipend arrangements and the office responsible for payment queries. Ask about the documents required to complete institutional onboarding. A figure shared by a senior may refer to a different year, institution or stage of training.

Prepare a household plan that recognises uncertainty in the timing of initial payments. Include rent, food, transport and essential setup costs. This is an organisational exercise, not advice to take a particular loan or assume a guaranteed cash flow. Discuss any financial commitment using verified figures and the actual terms involved.

Read service obligations and undertakings carefully

If a bond, undertaking or agreement is required, read the complete document and ask the responsible institution to explain unclear clauses. Identify the obligation, period, consequences and authority administering it. Do not sign based only on a summary in a social-media group.

Where an obligation has significant legal or financial implications for you, obtain suitable qualified advice on the actual document. A general admission article cannot resolve how a clause applies to your circumstances. Keep a copy of the signed document and record which version you received, along with any official clarification.

Prepare documents using your own reporting checklist

Start from the current authority and institute instructions. Create columns for the required original, number of copies if specified, location of the document and pending action. Check that names and qualification details match across the evidence you will submit.

If something is missing, ask what the institution will accept and how that answer should be documented. Do not assume that another candidate’s temporary arrangement applies to you. Keep your records securely accessible while travelling and avoid putting identity documents into public groups for informal review.

Plan accommodation around the actual timetable

Ask when accommodation can be occupied, whether it is assured and what charges or deposits apply. Check the travel time to the relevant training site, access arrangements and facilities for daily needs. If you will live off campus, investigate a realistic route at the times you may need to travel.

Consider study space, rest, food and personal support alongside rent. A cheaper room can create a difficult daily journey. Conversely, a convenient room may be unaffordable over the full period. Compare the complete arrangement using your own circumstances rather than assuming all trainees will benefit from the same choice.

Understand counselling obligations before changing a plan

A seat allocation may create specific reporting, resignation or subsequent-round conditions. Read the rules for your exact authority and round before deciding to decline, retain or seek another option. Do not carry an earlier round’s exit assumption into a later stage.

Keep a written record if you are involved in more than one permitted process. Confirm the relevant restrictions directly with the authority where necessary. Our results and reporting guide explains how to keep result documents, deadlines and joining evidence organised without mixing different counselling stages.

Use a concise question sheet when contacting the institute

Send a short enquiry containing the course and the specific point that needs clarification. Separate reporting logistics from a detailed academic discussion so that the right office can respond. Avoid sending an unnecessarily large collection of personal documents with an initial question.

For example, ask whether document verification and fee acknowledgement occur at the same location and which published checklist applies. This is easier to answer than a general request to explain everything about admission. Save responses and check that you have acted on the instructions rather than merely collected them.

Leave with evidence of the steps completed

Before leaving the reporting office, ask what has been recorded, what is still pending and where the next instruction will appear. Retain the receipt or acknowledgement available for completed activities. Note any deadline for a pending item and the designated contact for resolving it.

A useful final review asks three questions: is the correct course recorded, are the required payments acknowledged, and is the joining status clear? Your answer should come from the institution’s records and instructions. A verbal welcome or campus visit alone should not be assumed to establish that every formal requirement is complete.

Prepare for the first academic week

Once the admission record is clear, ask how orientation, department induction and academic communications are organised. Find out where the current handbook and timetable will be available. Note any formal onboarding step that remains outstanding, while keeping it distinct from the counselling authority’s joining requirements.

Keep questions practical: which office handles an academic query, how are timetable changes communicated and what should you bring to the first scheduled activity? These answers help you arrive prepared without assuming that another department’s arrangements apply to you. Preserve official communications so you can return to the instruction rather than depend on a message passed through several people.

Does a final allotment finish every admission step?

No. Complete the applicable reporting, document, payment and joining requirements.

Can I compare institutions only by stipend?

Use verified stipend information alongside training, supervision, costs and personal circumstances.

Are another candidate’s bond terms enough for my decision?
